Leading Through Change

Heartland Head Start is pleased to announce the beginning of our new Executive Director, Kalessa Williams-Edgerson M.Ed. Ms. Edgerson, who recently began her journey with us in mid-November, has a background that includes operating her own childcare facility, working in public schools and Head Start. Her experience also includes working with domestic violence programs and at-risk youth. She has earned her Master’s degree in Early Childhood from Grand Canyon University and has been approved by the Office of Head Start.

The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for providing overall strategic leadership in the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of all components (including operations, fiscal administration, legal, and programming) of Head Start/Early Head Start. It requires strong leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively with staff, families, and the overall community. Ultimately, Ms. Edgerson will develop and maintain an effective organizational structure that ensures effective management, coordination, and delivery of direct services to children and families.

We are so excited to welcome her to Heartland Head Start and Bloomington-Normal! She has roots close to the Midwest having been raised in Ohio and now with family living in Michigan. With family being of such importance, Ms. Edgerson has four beautiful children and one grandson. She follows numerous sports that include professional and college football alongside track and field. Traveling and seeking new adventure is a hobby as well!

Her future vision for Heartland Head Start includes rebuilding relationships, collaborations, and new partnerships in the community. Her dedication is to all the children and families here at Heartland Head Start. “I want them to feel supported and encouraged that they can accomplish their dreams.”
