Head Start Parent Volunteers are the Key to Success

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Heartland Head Start volunteer.  Since 1965, we've been dedicated to making sure all young children are given the opportunity to learn as many valuable lessons as possible during the years when it is easiest for them to learn.  But none of it would be possible without the help of caring people like you.

Whether you want to help in front of the classroom or behind the scenes, an hour or two of your time every week could make a big difference in the lives of our students, not to mention their families.  You see children aren't the only people who learn at Head Start.  We also make sure their parents are given the tools they need to reinforce crucial lessons at home.  Now that you know what we're about, we'd like to know what you're about.  Please take a few moments to complete this form.  It's one of the many things you can help us with today that will help shape a child's life tomorrow.

How can you help as a volunteer?

  1. Be a classroom* or office volunteer
  2. Be a bus monitor
  3. Be involved in Head Start Parent Committees, Advisory Committees, and Policy Council
  4. Involve others in the community in supporting the Head Start Program
  5. Help with field trip* activities
  6. Help your child’s teacher by preparing materials at home

*All volunteers working with children more than once a month must have a physical and proof of a negative TB test on file

Each one of us can find some way to be a part of the Head Start program.  Help give your child and others a “head start” in their life’s journey

Why Volunteer?

Having caring adults in the classroom will teach our children lessons of love.  Children learn more from seeing than from hearing.  If they are surrounded by loving caring adults, they will become self-confident and better ready for everything that lies ahead.
